LANDSCAPE CHARACTER ASSESSMENT

Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) is one of the principle tools that can be used in strategic planning for sustainable development. The process involves identifying, mapping, classifying and describing Landscape Character, as well as making judgements regarding Landscape Values and Landscape Sensitivity.

MosArt has played a leading role in Landscape Character Assessment in Ireland, including drafting the Landscape and Landscape Assessment Guidelines for the Department of the Environment Heritage and Local Government in 2000 as well as preparing a feasibility study on the mapping of Scenic Landscapes for Fáilte Ireland in 2007.

MosArt has completed Landscape Character Assessments for Counties Roscommon (2007), Waterford (2006) and Cork (2003).There are three qualified Landscape Architects at MosArt with extensive experience in LCA, including the hosting of community focus group meetings. MosArt also provides expert GIS services for LCA both in-house as well as in association with Macroworks Limited.
