Project type

Certification

Date

2017

Location

Vancouver, Canada

The Vancouver Vanguard, completed in 2017, was the first and largest Passive House certified apartment building in Vancouver, British Columbia. Designed by Cornerstone Architecture and certified by MosArt, this pioneering project consists of 85 beds across 63,700 ft². It demonstrates Vancouver's commitment to sustainable urban development, offering residents high-quality, energy-efficient living spaces.

The project tackled several technical challenges, including the thermal separation of the basement garage, designing a stacked semi-centralised ventilation system, incorporating a communal canteen, managing an extensive circulating domestic hot water (DHW) system, and ensuring the thermal performance of fire doors. As a beacon of sustainable architecture, Vancouver Vanguard sets a benchmark for future multi-residential Passive House developments in the region.
