Hooded House

Hooded House

Project Description:

This house was designed essentially as a simple ridge roof plan type (both hipped and gabled) but with expressive variation along the entrance side, involving continuation of the roof to form the porch. A single concrete column is used to support this, combined with a kick outwards in plan to ‘catch’ the visitor and draw them to the front door. Two matching concrete columns are used on the eastern end of the house to support a balcony off the master-bedroom that provides views to the sea. This balcony, triangular in plan, is subtly suggestive of a boat.
