Squire’s House

Squire’s House

Project Description:

A two-storey over basement / lower ground floor section is used in this case in order to accommodate the house to a steep slope and avail of views. The lower ground floor is primarily for recreation, including a swimming pool and billiards room. Typologically, the house takes as its starting point the Irish Georgian farm house with a central entrance, a low pitched hipped roof and symmetrical chimney stacks. The cubic form of this type is then either cut (breaking into the basic box) into or extended (releasing outwards internal spaces), such as a sweeping asymmetrical bay pushing towards the sea to the east.
